Cheap Espresso Machine

I bought an espresso machine used cheap without a manual. After a couple of times through, I noticed that steam was escaping from the tank lid. I am paranoid that the whole machine will explode or something. Is this normal for steam to escape, and should I just keep my milk to steam as it happens?

Im pretty sure this is normal. My coffee maker does the same thing:)
